Public gives mixed reaction to Senate election results

LAHORE:People gave mixed reaction to the Senate election of Sadiq Sanjrani as chairman and Mirza Muhammad Afridi as deputy chairman, both candidates of the incumbent government.
According to Aqeel Ahmed, it was the victory of democracy. PDM was involved in horse-trading but Imran Khan defeated them badly. PDM must learn a lesson from this election and cooperate with the government for the welfare of people and country. Ahmed said that Imran Khan was against the status quo and Yousaf Raza Gillani was a representative of status quo.
Ahmed said that now there was no difficulty for PTI government and their focus would be only public service delivery. PDM would not create problem during legislations, he said. Over 300 border residents on Saturday attended a free eye screening camp organised by the Border Security Force (BSF) near the International Border (IB) here, an officer of the border guarding force said. Deputy Inspector General of BSF S P S Sandhu said the camp was held with the assistance of centre for eye sight at Border Outpost Octroi under the shadow of recently inaugurated 131-feet national flag in Suchetgarh block of R S Pura sector. Free medicines were also distributed among the patients, Sandhu, who is also the public relations officer of the force, said.
The present system of electing people s representatives is not a foreign import but was practiced even way back 920 AD as per the inscriptions in a temple in Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram district about 90 km from here.
